One of the oldest garden clubs in Vermont, the Middlebury Garden Club was founded in 1933 by members of the local Women’s Club to pursue their interests in gardening, floral design, youth programs and flower shows as well as civic beautification.
The Middlebury Garden Club is an enthusiastic organization dedicated to offering gardening education and community service opportunities in Middlebury and Addison County, Vermont.
The garden club plans an active calendar of activities and events. Offerings include:
· Free gardening programs presented by paid speakers open to the public. Recent topics have focused on climate change, threats to garden pollinators and vegetable gardening.
· Outings to private gardens, nurseries and other Vermont gardening destinations.
· Social potluck luncheons with member talks on gardening topics
· Opportunities to participate in decorating and beautification projects in Middlebury
· Fund-raising events that enable the club to contribute to community gardening projects.
· Annual scholarships for the University of Vermont’s master gardener program.
Open to beginner gardeners through seasoned veterans, the only membership qualifications are a love of gardening and a willingness to participate actively in the club’s projects and programs.
